In November 2003, the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) established an investigative committee, "PV Roadmap 2030 (PV2030)," consisting of key figures from academic, industry and governmental circles, to promote the sustainable development of Photovoltaic (PV) power generation. The committee compiled technical issues for a long-term strategy and has charted a future PV R&D direction for many applications in all fields. In June 2004, the discussion sessions were completed and summarized as "Japan's PV Roadmap 2030 (PV2030)." PV2030 formulated additional crucial steps and strategies for PV R&D in order for it to be a primary energy source.
