Korea Polytechnic University Visits NEDO
(September 14, 2005)
On September 5th, faculty members and students from Korea Polytechnic University (http://www.kpu.ac.kr/) visited NEDO’s Hibiya Public Relations Center.
Korea Polytechnic University (KPU) was formally established in December 1997 at a meeting of economy-related ministers as a means of improving Korea’s technology educational system. The university opened in March 1998 with seven departments for 560 students. At present, it has 13 undergraduate departments, two graduate schools, and 1,500 undergraduate and graduate students. KPU has close relationships with about 1,700 “family” companies, and it plays an important role in fostering academic-industrial cooperation in Korea.
On the day of the visit, Mr. Takeo Niga, Director General of NEDO’s Policy Planning and Coordination Department, discussed such topics as the importance of continuous effort concerning research and development, the position of NEDO, and the most effective way of carrying out large-scale research and development.
Following NEDO’s presentation, KPU’s faculty members and students asked several questions, such as how to handle research results and how to achieve incentives for university researchers.
