Development of a Remarkably Environmentally Robust Rubber

-Material Property Enhancement through the Addition of Single-walled CNTs, Dramatically increasing the Potential Scope of Applications-

As part of a NEDO project, the Technology Research Association for Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes (TASC) and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) developed a new rubber material through the addition of single-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to rubber. This new material possesses the best tolerance against various environments, such as high temperatures, humidity, and exposure to acid-alkali conditions.

In the future, the scope of applications of this environmentally-robust rubber material is expected to expand dramatically, with envisioned uses spanning sealing for oil-drilling equipment, alternatives to metal gaskets in automobiles, for chemical production, and for fuel transportation.
