Super Engineering Plastic "PEEK/SGCNT Composite Material" Developed

-World's Highest Level of Heat-Resistance and Mechanical Strength Achieved with the Addition of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes-

As part of a NEDO project, the Technology Research Association for Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes (TASC) and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) have succeeded in creating a new injection moldable super engineering plastic called "PEEK/SGCNT Composite Material" by adding single-walled carbon nanotubes produced by the Super-Growth method (SGCNT) to polyether ether ketone (PEEK), a type of super engineering plastic, and simultaneously achieved the world's highest ratings for heat-resistance (450ºC) and mechanical strength (1.8 times higher in flexural strength) of such materials.

From the perspective of heat-resistance, it is expected that the developed super engineering plastic will replace other materials including light metal materials in the future and will rapidly expand its scope of application as lightweight and easily moldable PEEK materials for automobile parts and aerospace industry parts.
