NEDO Succeeds in Creating High-Performance Porous Thermoelectric Material

– Aspiring to the realization of a high durability thermoelectric conversion module that effectively utilizes waste energy –

As part of a NEDO project, Hakusan, Inc., together with other participants, has succeeded in creating a porous p-type, magnesium silicide thermoelectric material with a performance of an output factor of 60% or more with respect to a conventional n-type thermoelectric material. This material is the first of its kind in the world.

Going forward, NEDO will aspire to further the realization of a low-cost, high-durability thermoelectric conversion module, which converts unused heat energy in the exhaust heat of automobile engines and industrial fields into electricity at 300 - 400 °C.

The result of this research will be exhibited at the “NEDO Energy Conversation Technology Forum 2017” of “INCHEM TOKYO 2017,” which will be held at Tokyo Big Sight from November 20 to 22, 2017. NEDO will introduce this research as one of the latest energy conservation technologies.
