June 14, 2018

On June 13, 2018, NEDO and the Japan Smart Community Alliance (JSCA) held the "Smart Community Summit 2018" at Tokyo International Forum. In the opening speech, NEDO Chairman Hiroaki Ishizuka greeted attendees and noted the growing international attention being given to measures for grid stabilization, a requirement for widespread renewable energy deployment, and the impact of increased EV adoption on power systems. He also introduced NEDO’s pioneering efforts to address these issues through international smart community demonstration projects, and mentioned that smart communities will be a very promising technology to cope with changes in the energy sector.

At the summit, power system experts from the United States, Germany, and Japan explored the latest trends in power system control technology during lectures in the "Perspective of Renewable Energy Introduction Beyond the Limit of Grid" session. Experts in the EV and charging standards fields also discussed different views on how the current EV shift will transform the energy industry during a series of lectures in the "EV Values and Possibilities in the Grid" session and a panel discussion.
