Commencement Ceremony Held for the Start of Operation of Automated Demand Response Demonstration System in Portugal

July 2, 2018

A commencement ceremony to mark the start of operation of the Project for Automated Demand Response demonstration system for air conditioning in Portugal was held on June 29, 2018 at the Lisbon City Hall.

For this project, multi-split air-conditioning systems for office building equipped with cold storage units and a demand response function were installed in four public facilities in Lisbon, including City Hall. During the demonstration, the upper limit of electricity consumption for the air conditioning system is automatically controlled in response to the needs of the grid in balancing electric power supply and demand in collaboration with a Portuguese electric power retailer and Virtual Power Plant operator.

Takashi Omote, Executive Director of NEDO; Dr. Teresa Ponce de Leão, President of LNEG, Frans Hoorelbeke, chairman, member of the board of Daikin Europe N.V.; Jun Niimi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Portugal; and Fernando Medina, Mayor of Lisbon participated in the ceremony.
