Meeting with Prime Minister of Lao People' s Democratic Republic

NEDO Executive Director Yoshiteru Sato met with Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith of the Lao People' s Democratic Republic (PDR) on July 4, 2018, in Vientiane, Lao PDR.

At the meeting, they discussed NEDO' s ongoing demonstration project for an energy-efficient data center* being conducted in cooperation with the Lao PDR Ministry of Science and Technology, and reconfirmed their mutual cooperation aimed at the successful accomplishment of the project and the sustainable utilization of the outcome.

Mr. Takeshi Hikihara, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Lao PDR, and Dr. Boviengkham Vongdara, Lao PDR Minister of Science and Technology, also attended the meeting with other project member representatives from both the Japanese and Laotian sides.

* The purpose of this project is to conduct a technology demonstration of operating systems appropriate to the Lao PDR environment and verify the CO2 emissions reduction effect under the Joint Crediting Mechanism by introducing a high-quality and energy-efficient container-type data center, which is the first full-fledged data center of this type in the Lao PDR.
