On July 19, 2018, NEDO held a kick-off meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia, for a demonstration project to develop a sustainable transportation system, including infrastructure construction to disseminate compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles.

This project will promote the construction of infrastructure to supply quality fuel that meets international standards, by furthering the installation of CNG stations and the introduction and use of CNG vehicles in the Jakarta metropolitan area and nearby industrial parks. NEDO hopes to encourage energy conservation and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through this project.

The meeting was attended by many people involved in the project from both Indonesia and Japan, including Director Alimuddin Baso of the Director of Oil and Gas of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources; the Director of PT Pertamina Basuki Trikora Putra; NEDO Executive Director Yoshiteru Sato; and representatives of Toyota Motor Corporation, Hino Motors, Ltd., Toyota Tsusho Corporation, Toho Gas Engineering Co., Ltd., and the Japan Automobile Research Institute (JARI).

This year also marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Japan, and Executive Director Yoshiteru Sato expressed his hope that the project will symbolize the cooperation between the two countries and successfully promote the use of CNG vehicles.
