August 9, 2018

On August 8, 2018, NEDO held a ceremony at a NEDO office in Tokyo to honor the six outstanding research projects by AI start-up companies, which were chosen competitively with the aim of promoting social implementation of AI, as a part of NEDO’s "Research Study on Next Generation AI Technology Field: Strategic Advancement of Multi-Purpose Ultra-Human and AI Technologies (SamuRAI)."

Of the 30 applications from around the country, six projects were chosen in total: first prize for one project and special jury prize for three ones from the productivity field; and first prize for one project and special jury prize for one from the health, medical care, and welfare field. In the ceremony, eight companies of the first prize or special jury prize for six projects in total, received a certificate of commendation from NEDO Executive Director Kiyoshi Imai. All the prize winners are to engage in respective research and development for up to two years from FY2018 through FY2019.

NEDO, based on the government’s Artificial Intelligence Technology Strategy, will promote social implementation of AI to key areas, create new demand, and enhance industrial competitiveness through the fusion with existing areas by supporting start-up companies.
