NEDO Held the First Joint Symposium on Next Generation Artificial Intelligence Technology

On April 25, NEDO held “The First Joint Symposium on Next Generation Artificial Intelligence Technology” in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications; the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology; the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry; and the Japan Science and Technology Agency.

The symposium was a kick-off event for the collaboration between the three ministries and the other agencies in research and development (R&D) of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Sanae Takaichi, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, Hiroshi Hase, Minister of Education, Sports, Science, and Technology, and Motoo Hayashi, Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry participated in the event, where representatives from the government, academia, and industry gave lectures on AI R&D and their expectations for utilization, exploring the topic from a variety of different perspectives.

In addition, the directors of three AI-related research centers at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, the RIKEN, and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology introduced their latest R&D activities. A panel discussion with young researchers in the field titled “Future Directions in AI Technology Development” was also held.

NEDO Chairman Kazuo Furukawa stated that, “Through collaboration between the three ministries and the other related agencies, we want to strongly promote R&D and societal implementation of the next-generation AI technology."
