Ceremony Held to Celebrate the Launch of Data Center Energy Conservation Demonstration in Texas, U.S.A.

NEDO and NTT Facilities,Inc. (NTTF), in collaboration with The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin), have completed the installation of a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) feeding system at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) of UT Austin, and on August 25, 2016, a ceremony was held at TACC to commemorate the start of its operation.

At the ceremony, the Japanese side was represented by Tetsuro Amano, Consul-General of Japan in Houston, Munehiko Tsuchiya, Executive Director of NEDO, as well as Atsushi Ichihoshi, President and CEO of NTTF, while the U.S. side was represented by Dr. Daniel Jaffe, Vice President for Research, UT Austin.

During the event, Executive Director Tsuchiya said, "NEDO hopes that this project will provide the best practice and lead to the expansion of HVDC feeding technology to solve the issue of reducing data center energy consumption not only in Texas but also throughout the United States." Consul-General Amano also made a congratulatory speech mentioning "Austin is a strategic location of the IT industry and is known as Silicon Hills, it is very significant for the Japan-US cooperation to do this project in this place."
