September 6, 2016

On August 27 in Nairobi, Kenya, NEDO participated in a seminar entitled "Technology Enabling Innovation and Industrialization in Africa," an official side event at the Sixth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD VI). The seminar was co-hosted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan; the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Investment and Technology Promotion Office, Tokyo; the Overseas Human Resources and Industry Development Association; and the Japan Productivity Center.

NEDO Executive Director Makoto Watanabe introduced NEDO's demonstration projects in Africa during Session 1 of the seminar entitled "Japan's Technical Cooperation: Productivity, Human Resources, Investment and Technology Promotion." He then described NEDO's continued contribution to Africa's industrialization efforts.

Mr. Watanabe also participated in a panel discussion during Session 2 entitled "Collaboration for Industrial Development in Africa – Low Carbon Low Emission Clean Energy Technology Transfer Programme (LCET)." He explained that several LCET programme projects are currently being carried out using the results of NEDO's feasibility studies.

NEDO and UNIDO concluded a memorandum of understanding for comprehensive cooperation in June 2013. NEDO will continue to cooperate with UNIDO in order to further promote Africa's industrialization.
