NEDO Signed an MOU with the Ministry for Economics, Labor and Transport of the German State of Niedersachsen and Others Regarding a Hybrid Battery System Demonstration Project

March 22, 2017

On March 19, 2017, NEDO signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry for Economics, Labor and Transport of the state of Niedersachsen of the Federal Republic of Germany, along with EWE-Verband, which is an association managing the electric power supply to 17 districts and four cities in Niedersachsen, and EEW Holding to jointly implement a demonstration project on a large-scale hybrid battery system.

The project will focus on the construction of a large-scale hybrid battery system in Niedersachsen, where renewable energy, particularly wind power, has been introduced in large quantities, to contribute to the stabilization of the distribution grid, and thereby controle the electric power supply and demand balance through charging and discharging storage batteries. The project will also seek to establish a new business model for electricity trading using the battery system.

The MOU was signed by Mr. Furukawa, Chairman of NEDO, Mr. Lies, Minister for Economics, Labor and Transport of Niedersachsen, Mr. Schönecke, Association Director of EWE-Verband , Mr. Bramlage, Deputy Association Director of EWE-Verband and Mr. Röhler, Managing Director of EEW Holding.
