NEDO Held the "Smart Community Summit 2017"

On June 8 and 9, 2017, NEDO and the Japan Smart Community Alliance (JSCA) held the "Smart Community Summit 2017" at Tokyo Big Sight (Tokyo International Exhibition Center).

In the opening speech, NEDO Chairman Kazuo Furukawa greeted attendees with an overview of the major changes regarding the energy situations in Europe, the United States and developing countries including the Paris Agreement, which was followed by an introduction of the power system reforms currently progressing in Japan as well as NEDO's efforts to address these issues. He also mentioned that the interactive information exchange between supply side and demand side utilizing IT and AI technologies is highly expected to the realization of energy efficient smart communities.

At the summit, experts on power systems from Europe, the United States and Japan presented an outlook on the challenges we face and potential solutions related to the high penetration of renewable energy through a series of lectures and panel discussions focused on "Countermeasures for PV," "New Energy Business Players," and "Energy Demand and Smart Community Projects in Emerging Markets."
