NEDO Participated in a Welcoming Ceremony for "Kairyu," 100 kW demonstrator for the Ocean Current Power Generation System

August 1, 2017

On July 17, 2017, NEDO participated in a welcoming ceremony for the 100kW demonstrator for the subsea floating-type ocean current generation system, which took place at the Kushikino Fishing Port in Ichikikushikino City, Kagoshima Prefecture. The test machine, called "Kairyu," was developed by NEDO and IHI Corporation.

At the ceremony, NEDO Executive Director Munehiko Tsuchiya greeted attendees, saying that NEDO would like to promote the project and expected that this demonstration project, the first of its kind in the world, would be a first step to realize the introduction of ocean power. The governor of Kagoshima Prefecture, Satoshi Mitazono, also expressed his hopes for ocean power in his speech.

NEDO and IHI Corporation will begin the demonstration project in mid-August off the coast of Kuchinoshima Island in Toshima Village, Kagoshima Prefecture
