[Research & development for efficient collection, cutting, drying and storage of biomass as the raw material / By Mitsubishi Chemical Corp.]:In test places of Hokkaido, Niigata and Fukuoka, the biomasses were stored by covering with 2 kinds of moisture-penetrable water proof sheet (abbreviated to MPWP sheet) and perfect water proof sheet for 6 months. The result in each test place showed that moisture content reached to 20%(37% drying) level by using MPWP sheet highly efficient in storage and drying even in hard circumstance such as high snow fall and rainfall.These dried rice straws were applied for pelletizing test and confirmed decreasing the volume by 1/4~1/6 by pelletizing. The 3 kinds of sheets used in storage and drying test of rice straw rolls were studied the physical property changes (Measurement of pulling, tearing, sticking, penetrability and water pressure proof) before and after 6 months storage test.Resultingly, MPWP sheet made by Mitsubishi Plastics Inc. was confirmed to be the highest qualities in penetrability and water pressure proof, and selected as the most suitable sheet for this research objective. Moreover, the physical properties after using for 6 months was confirmed to be practically useable, while the physical properties are slightly deteriorated after 6 months usage.Rice straw pellets was gasified at 1000℃ and measured Cd content in the gas and ash. It was confirmed that the Cd was trapped with outlet filter of gasification furnace and was not detected in off-gas.:[Research & development for the transportable pelletizing technology of plant derived biomass /By Kitagawa Iron works Co., Ltd.]:It is effective for pelletizing plant derived biomass at harvest site to pelletize directly from long fibrous condition without crushing to pieces. A transportable pelletizing system which is able to be installed in space areas or fallow fields near by rice fields was developed, based on pelletizing machine of flat die type which is able to crush the long fibrous rice straw.The pelletizing system comprises roll cutter unit of crushing straw roll veils and formation unit of pelletizing rice straws. The efficiency test of developed transportable pelletizing system was carried out in farm area in Omuta city of Fukuoka. Resultingly, the system could be operated with total electric consumption of 100 kWh comprising 90kWh of pelletizing machine and 10kWh of additional machine, in case of 1 ton/hr capacity.In order to study the character of the rice straw pellet, enzyme saccharification test was carried out in lab scale. Resultingly, the rice straw pellets showed better saccharified ratio than sample of simply crushed rice straw, and moreover 80% of saccharified ratio was obtained by alkaline treatment. Hereon, a possibility that the rice roll pellet is useable for material of bio-ethanol production was found out.
