�p���v��This report describes detailed results of the NEDO�fs project, titled �gstandardization on test methods for interfacial strength of sprayed coatings by indentation�h. The research is aimed at establishing standard testing methods to evaluate the adhesion of sprayed coatings by using a conventional Vickers indenter. The adhesion of sprayed coatings is the most important and basic properties on the designing of sprayed coatings. However, the standard testing method �gISO 14916�h, which is the tensile method by using glue, can�ft be applied to evaluate the adhesion strength of HVOF coatings because the HVOF coatings have higher adhesion strength compared with glue. The indentation method is one of the promising methods to evaluate the adhesion of such high adhesive coatings. In the present fiscal year of 2010, the basic investigations were carried out to determine the conditions of the round-robin test to make the standardization on indentation test method. Especially, the influences of the coating materials, the thickness of coating, the maximum indentation load etc. on the cracking morphologies by the indentation were investigated. In addition, recommendations for indentation test conditions and specimen preparation methods were discussed and decided. Furthermore, the adhesion strength level and the apparent interfacial fracture toughness were determined as the criteria of coating adhesion. On the basis of the experimental results, the round-robin test conditions were determined and the coating specimens for the round-robin tests have been prepared.
