�p���v��In our previous research project entitled "High quality determination of pH of sea water for Carbon dioxide capture and storage monitoring" supported by NEDO, we prepared and discussed working draft to propose the determination of the pH of sea water using the indicator dye m-cresol purple to ISO TC147/SC2 during FY2011. The round-robin test in Japan was examined before the international test and the analytical procedure was checked about indicator dye and instruments. Results are as follow; (1) The working draft entitled �gWater quality-Determination of the pH of sea water using the indicator dye m-cresol purple�h and the new work item proposal form 4 were prepared to propose for ISO TC147/SC2 during FY2011. (2) The purity of m-cresol purple and the method to determine the extinction coefficient ratios corresponding to the absorbance maxima of the base and acid forms of m-cresol purples depending on instruments were examined technically. Several m-cresol purples and its sodium salts were obtained inside Japan. These purities were depended on the manufactures. However, these reagents exclude one has same absorbance spectra under the strong base. Difference between absorbance of excluded regent and others would introduce systematic error about 0.001. As pH of seawater is obtained from partial pressure of carbon dioxide in air, simple equilibrator was tested to determine the extinction coefficient ratios for m-cresol purples depending on instruments. Its results suggested that this equilibrator is useful to check the instrument. The schematic flow analyzer system including simple equilibrator is suggested finally. (3) Seawater standards for carbonate analysis made by Kanso Co. Ltd. and Certified Reference Material by Scripps Institution of Oceanography and University of California, San Diego were distributed and tested for four laboratories in Japan before the international round-robin test. Values reported by the laboratories exclude one, which laboratory is not enough to control temperature during measurement, consist less than 0.003. This result was supported that the distributed samples were enough to use the international round-robin test.
