英文要約Abstract of the project activity on “Characterizations of high-strength materials such as those used compressed hydrogen pre-cooler” (FY2010-FY2011) as annual report in 2010FY
In this study, the test equipment in the latest project is made use for characterizations of metallic materials under the atmosphere of compressed hydrogen. We focused on high strength materials used for a pre-cooler of compressed hydrogen and expected to have a compatibility of compressed hydrogen. Also this study has been carried out in cooperation with the Research Center for Hydrogen Industrial Use and Storage (Hydrogenius), National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST).
Some test materials of evaluation were selected from performance requirements such as high pressure hydrogen pre-cooler and experienced materials of high strength austenitic stainless steels using for hydrogen infrastructure equipment.
“HP160”, one of the evaluation materials was selected from high strength stainless steels.
About the chemical composition of this material, as the amount of Mn, Cr, N are controlled and the amount of Ni is less in comparison with SUS316L, which is traditionally used for high pressure hydrogen gas equipment, this material has been improved the tensile strength. The mechanical properties at room temperature are settled 800MPa or more for the tensile strength and 450MPa or more for 0.2% proof stress. These figures are much higher compared with SUS316L. As HP160 material is not treated with cold working and can be welded, this property is better for manufactures of pre-cooler and high pressure equipment to make them smaller.
Also some material tests of HP160, e.g) slow strain rate tests, fatigue crack growth rate tests and gas cycle tests of piping sample, are held in the atmosphere of compressed hydrogen to evaluate hydrogen compatibility as well as the other materials.
When the new high strength material is used for the high-pressure hydrogen equipment, these equipment and materials should be adopted to the high pressure gas safety law. In particular, because high pressure pre-cooler is handled a heat exchanger, it is necessary to design, to make, and to inspect it based on the specific equipment inspection rule of the high pressure gas safely law. In addition, the use of the new high strength materials might be demanded material characteristic data in the design temperature and high pressure hydrogen atmosphere.
On the other hand, the restriction to install fuel-cell cars and hydrogen stations is reviewed now, and also a technical standard of the hydrogen station will be published.
While the technical standard will be made in progress, these data will be used to examine the design procedure for practical use.
