英文要約1) Basic Study : In this NEDO special course, basic research has been conducted to develop new Fe-based and Ni-based metallic glasses having high glass formability and excellent properties such as good soft-magnetic properties and fatigue resistance. In order to develop a large size Fe-based bulk glassy core with good soft magnetic properties by the powder metallurgy processing, the spark plasma sintering technique was applied to a Fe76Si9.6B8.4P6 glassy alloy powder with a wide supercooled liquid region. A large sized glassy alloy compact with 12 mm in diameter and 3 mm in thickness and with a high relative density of above 97% could be prepared. The sintered bulk ring-core consisted of a single glassy structure exhibited much lower core loss than the non-oriented silicon steel. The core loss at 100 kHz and maximum induction of 0.2 T, i.e. W0.2/100k was only 3,740 W/kg, whose value is about 30% for the silicon steel. The Fe76Si9.6B8.4P6 composite ring-core with 4wt% SiO2 was also exhibited lower loss than the silicon steel. The W0.2/100k was only 1,314 W/kg. The low loss of the cores is attributed to the combination of the high relative density, the maintenance of the single glassy structure and redaction of the eddy current. 2) Lectures for graduate students : The lecture for the graduate students of Tohoku University was organized as the NEDO special course in August 19-20, 2010. The lecture was also open to the researchers and everyone who were interested in metallic glass. Moreover, four special lectures were also organized in this academic year. The first lecturer was Dr. Giselher Herzer, a researcher of the VACUUMSCHMELZE in Germany. His lecture on the relationship between material structure and magnetism was held in June 20, 2010 at IMR. The next special lectures were held at IMR in August 26, 2010. The lecturers were Prof. Naiqin Zhao (Tianjin University, China) and Prof. Osami Haruyama (Tokyo University of Science). The third special lecture was held in December 9, 2010. The lecturer was Dr. Nicoleta Lupu (National Institute of Research and Development for Technical Physics, France). 3) Extension lectures organized by the NEDO special course : Six extension lectures were organized by this NEDO special course and were held in Sendai, Higashi-Osaka and Tokyo. The extension lecture in Sendai was held in August 19-20, 2010, at the same time combined with the lecture for the graduate students of Tohoku University. The extension lecture (joint symposium) in March 3 in Tokyo was held under the auspices of this NEDO special course and Nihon University. The extension lectures in Higashi-Osaka were held three times in this fiscal year. The staff member of the NEDO special course, Prof. A. Makino gave a lecture on magnetic properties of metallic glasses in the extension lectures in Sendai, Tokyo and Higashi-Osaka. Associate Professor S. Yamaura gave a lecture on hydrogen applications of metallic glasses as an extension lecture in Sendai and Higashi-Osaka extension lectures.
