(1)正・負極材料の開発
正極及び負極の低コスト・長寿命化の観点から、本年度は正負極材料の予備検討を進めた。正極材については、Oの一部をF置換したスピネルMnを合成し、X線回折法により結晶構造を確認した(図1)。

1)Development of materials for lithium battery
(1)Development of cathode and anode materials
We have been concentrating on the preliminary investigations of cathode and anode materials from low cost and long-life perspectives. Relating to cathode materials, as a result, we found that partial substitution of fluoride ions for oxide ions could increase the capacity. And the guideline of long-life was proposed that substitution of aluminum or nickel ions partially for manganese ions improved cycle properties. We also proceeded surface modification for further long-life. Relating to anode materials, we understood initial performances of cost-conscious natural graphite.
We started up evaluation equipments of powder properties and materials.
(2)Development of electrolyte
As a trial to improve the safety, we proceeded preliminary investigations of electrolyte composition. Consequently we got the guideline of adequate composition on the basis of relationship between flash point and electrolyte composition. We carried out the investigations to comprehend the influence for initial performances on cathode or anode single electrode. And the preliminary investigations of additives and surface modification were launched to suppress decomposition reactions of electrolyte on anode surface. We started up the analysis equipment of battery reactions.
2)Investigation and evaluation of battery specification
We analyzed above obtained date of initial performances to incorporate newly investigated cathode and anode materials into battery design. Specification of 1Ah-class model battery was designed.
