The project of constructing low-carbon society demonstration in the city of Toyota, hereinafter called the Toyota Demonstration Project, has been selected as Next-Generation energy and Social Systems Demonstration Areas. In order to develop technology and prove its effect for the achievement of "optimization of home energy use", we run "R&D and Demonstration of battery-equipped HEMS which incorporates energy-creating/saving appliances and has V2H system, and battery-equipped BEMS for commercial facilities which incorporates commercial vehicles and general EV/PHV". In our study, HEMS integrates and controls various energy-creating appliances such as photovoltaic and fuel cell and energy-storing equipments such as heat pump water heater and next generation vehicle, particularly the battery which installed in the demand side. The research consists of the following 7 items.
1) Development of user interface, 2) Development of V2H system, 3) Development of Lithium-ion battery system for stationary, 4) Development of equipment using photovoltaic power generation, 5) Development of application function, 6) Development of incorporated system for battery-equipped BEMS, 7) Design of specifications for verification houses which include the introduction of appliances and specifications development of HEMS. In development of the user interface, we studied interface specifications (communication protocol and information format) to communicate with energy appliances such as photovoltaic power generation system, and considered configuration so that each appliance can communicate simultaneously. In development of V2H system, we studied specifications of bidirectional communication between PHV and plug-in station and considered a system for electric relays with a locking mechanism. In development of Lithium-ion battery system for stationary, we developed battery pack technology and studied charging/discharging control for its batteries. In development of equipment using photovoltaic power generation, we developed a fundamental control strategy for development of AC/DC dual-driven inverter for "Eco Cute", heat pump water heater. In development of application function, we studied development of lead acid battery system, design of Lithium-ion battery system, and considered the energy information system which collects energy data for electric appliances in a house and transmits it to the information center. In development of incorporated system for battery-equipped BEMS, we formulated specifications and design for each component such as BEMS, DC-driven heat pump water heater, equipment for commercial vehicles and so on. In design of specifications for verification houses which include the introduction of appliances and specifications development of HEMS, we considered specifications for verification houses and formulated house design rule for installation of the verification equipments.
