1)システムの検討
昨年度に引き続き、スラッシュ窒素冷却のメリットを定量的に評価するために、具体的な超電導ケーブルモデルを設定し(表1)、この検討モデルに対し液体窒素冷却およびスラッシュ窒素冷却時のケーブル内の温度、圧力変化を計算にて求めた。検討モデルについては昨年度と同様、以下の条件で仕様を決定した。

This project is to develop a new cooling system for superconducting cables using slush nitrogen instead of liquid nitrogen. Compared with liquid nitrogen, slush nitrogen has a greater heat capacity which helps to reduce the amount of required fluid. As a superconducting cable cooling system the slush nitrogen cooling system should carry nitrogen particles over long distances.
We have carried out the following works this year.
1. Examination of cooling system:
continuing from last year, we have performed simulations for cable cooling system and improved their accuracy.
2. Study as to how to control the solid-liquid ratio of slush nitrogen:
we have examined the temperature distribution of fluid flowing through pipes using our slush nitrogen circulation system as described later.
3. Study of continuous generation method :
we made slush nitrogen circulation equipment including units for generating and circulating slush nitrogen which enables long-term tests. We have made test runs of our circulation system and confirmed its performance at low temperatures.
