NEDOが掲げる2020年の発電コストおよび製造コストの目標を実現させるためには、太陽光発
電システム全体のデザインを総合的に見直し、太陽電池セル・モジュールに留まらず、据付に関わる部材および工事費用を大幅に低減することが必要である。そこで、本研究では以下を最終目標としている。

Cost/Wh reduction as total photovoltaic system including module, BOS, and installation is critical in order to achieve grid parity. In this project, we aim installation cost reduction with our unique material technology. Two approaches are taken to realize this objective, and the progress of each approach is summarized below.
The first approach is development of plastic based installation parts to reduce the number of parts and installation working hours. In 2011, we developed the prototype of installation parts consisting of rubber and plastic, which enable quick installation of PV module without bolts or nuts. We evaluated the prototype of installation parts through 4 full size module installation trial and found that it had strong potential to reduce installation working hours, but we also found out several issues which need to be improved. The prototype of installation parts passed spread-of-flame test in IEC61730-2. We applied one patent with this concept, and exhibited the mock-up in PV EXPO 2012.
The second approach is development of lightweight and frameless module which makes it possible to diversify the design of installation parts. In 2011, we developed an efficient method to determine the thickness/type of encapsulant and glass which is suitable for various module size and installation parts as well as satisfies the load resistance required for PV module. Regarding reliability study, the aluminum framed PV module using ionomer passed all the damp heat test, thermal cycle test, UV test and humidity freeze test. Recently, we started damp heat test and thermal cycle test of frameless modules.
In 2012, we will start further development with module manufacturers and system integrators based on these core technologies. In parallel, we will continue durability study of plastic installation parts and frameless modules.
