Subjects for joint research
In order to achieve the NEDO target of Yen40/kWh power generation cost,
MES will investigate the following technology arena to make Power Buoy design fit into Japanese sea environment.
1. Power Buoy design to accommodate Japanese coastal environment
1.1 Drastic weight reduction
Achievement of 33% weight reduction on PB150(Rated output 150kW Power Buoy)
This achievement will be reflected PB-MES(Power Buoy for Japan).
1.2 Optimization of power generation efficiency
Completion of water tank test model design at operation
1.3 Design of TLP mooring
Completion of water tank test model design at rough sea
1.4 Effective distribution of multiple arrays of Power Buoys
Verfication of interference between PBs
2. Enhancement of cost effectiveness by MES original technology
2.1 TLP mooring design to cope with rough sea
Achievement of drastic reduction of mooring force
This achievment will be examined in detail next fiscal year.
2.2 Innovative improvement on power generation control
Verification of methodology of two different models
One is applied by wave making and absorbing.Another is applied by resonance.
These models will be examined in water tank next fiscal year.
2.3 Adoption of new method for Power Buoy implementation at sea
Verfication of new concept
3. Consensus building effort with local municipality
3.1 Research on ocean environment
Establishment of ocean wave spectrum and measurement of tidal condition in Izu Islands sea area
This result has been verified by real observation data.
3.2 Research on social and economical influence
One on-the-spot investigation has been done.
3.3 Hosting of open forum on the details of the project
One open forum has been done.
