平成23年度は、サーバシステムの省エネルギー性評価指標として、ソフトウェアにより省エネ運用を行った場合のユーザへの影響評価を重点的に行った。これは、ユーザが受けるサービスの品質に影響を与えるものであり、ユーザと事業者との間の契約事項(SLA: Service Level Agreement)に影響する。

(1) Development of evaluation framework for energy-saving operation in the server system (University of Tsukuba)
We picked up system parameters for Green SLA, and evaluated the relationship between performance and power consumption when their parameters are changed. We made it clear that it is possible to improve the index of performance per watt by appropriately selecting their system parameters depending on the load.
(2) Development of evaluation framework for energy-saving operation in a data center (AIST).
We developed a framework to evaluate the influence that the energy saving operation of the server gave to an energy efficiency metrics of the data center. It is not clear that gathering virtualized services is efficient in the viewpoint of energy-saving. We showed that mapping services to performance and power consumption space is useful for understanding the efficiency.
(3) Development of a datacenter reference model(NTT communications)
We have been developing a datacenter reference model for evaluating energy efficiency of data center. In order to improve our reference model, we revised existing parameters and added new parameters that reflect the achievements of other GreenIT projects.
(4) Construction of integrated evaluation environment for total evaluation of data center (AIST and NTT communications)
We constructed evaluation environment by using thermal-fluid dynamics simulators in server and data center (server room) levels. As criteria, we modeled a typical size of data center with 240 racks and container type data center by applying our reference model of data center. Furthermore, in the simulator environment, we made a server model which contains SOHKi's heat removal components.
(5) Designing the next generation green data center (AIST)
We have formed the project to integrate some of outputs with NEC and NTT Facilities. We are responsible for unification, total design and research on air cooling. In this year, we cooperated with NEC and NTT Facilities and designed the new modular type of data center including high voltage direct current, liquid cooling of processors, and cloud operation.
