Technical & Social Demonstration Study (FY2011-FY2013) FY2011 Annual Report
We acquired the demonstration data on durability, convenience and practicability of
FCV hydrogen infrastructure through the operations of twelve hydrogen stations using
FCVs and FC buses. In addition, with respect to remodeling and construction of
hydrogen stations which are scheduled in the next fiscal year, we carried out the
activities such as clarification of the specifications, design of the equipment
configurations, scheduling of construction and applications for permits and approval.
(1) 70MPa filling technology
We examined the equipment specifications according to the filling protocol of SAE
J2601 aiming at international standardization in Japan, North America and Europe. We
also verified the goals and demonstration subjects to achieve a three minutes filling.
Preliminary filling tests using the existing facilities were carried out to reflect the data to
the equipment specifications of future system which may meet the standard.
(2) Low cost station technology
We examined the equipment specifications of two filling systems (direct filling and
differential pressure filling) to be introduced in the next fiscal year. The performance
specifications of the direct filling compressor and the capacity of the accumulator for
the differential pressure filling were decided by the design reviewing.
We also extracted some permits and approval issues as to the equipments to be
introduced next year as well, working with the project of “Development of technologies
for hydrogen production, transportation and storage systems”.
(3) High frequency operation
We accumulated the data on the durability of hydrogen stations and facilities promoting
high occupancy fleet operational demonstration. In this demonstration program, we
added a hydrogen recycle line to the compressor system in Cetrair hydrogen station in
order to attain a higher frequency condition.
We attained a total run of 87,000 km and hydrogen filling of 3,000 kg in a fleet
operational demonstration using FCVs and FC buses.
(4) Demonstration of Total System technology
As to the technology demonstration of the large scale hydrogen shipment system which
can realize hydrogen transportation from the plant to the off-site hydrogen station, the
verification items and target values have been fixed.
Demonstration on the separation and recovery of CO2 from on-site hydrogen production
unit has been done in Haneda hydrogen station.
Furthermore, we identified the issues pertaining to the construction and operation of the
future commercial scale FCV station (100 vehicles per day) and created the outline of
the demonstration plan.
(5) Others
We carried out long distance demonstration runs between Nikko, Yamanashi and Tokyo
area in order to obtain the data on convenience and practicability of FCV hydrogen
infrastructure accompanying the expansion of running distance.
