In this project, we have been developing manufacturing technologies for large-scale carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) tanks for supplying high pressure hydrogen gas used at hydrogen stations as accumulators. Compared with correspondent high pressure type of current steel tanks, our target tanks are highly-advantageous in points of the production cost and installation space. The manufacturing technology of these tanks is one of the most necessary technologies for the establishment of hydrogen infrastructure. The purpose of this project during five-year is developing of the manufacturing technologies of the 300 L CFRP tanks which will be able to store hydrogen gas at about 80 MPa as normal operating pressure. Also, the target of these reduced production cost is 10 million yen or less, and reduced weight is 1000 kg or less. Moreover, we are going to acquire special permission of the CFRP tanks, mentioned above, to use the verification test in the hydrogen stations of another national project and verify by cooperating with the enforcer of the verification test. In this fiscal year, we have established the detail designs specifications of the large-size CFRP tanks for the verification test. ( Capacity: 200L, Length: 2800 mm, Outside diameter: 490 mm, Weight: 490 kg, Minimum bursted pressure: over 185 MPa) We had manufactured these type of CFRP tanks, and using these tanks, we completed conducting the evaluation tests required for special permission acquisition of the CFRP tanks. (Some subcontract examinations are included) At present we have been negotiating with the relevant authorities for special permission acquisition. And now we have started the development of the 300 L CFRP tanks.
