For the achievement of 25% reduction of greenhouse gas emission that Japan advocates, various reduction efforts as well as the technology development in every field are required. 
The effective utilization of organic wastes, eapecially biogasification process must be one convincing achievement means.
But the conventional method, in which organic matter is broken down through microorganism activity has problems of non-efficiency, extremely slow reaction rate, huge reaction vessel for digestion/fermentation, a large quantity of organic matter left as grime, etc.
The development of a hybrid biogas plant of high efficiency with a sub-critical water processing unit as pretreatment equipment which enables to accelerate the resolution process is the target of the present project.
A feasibility study of the project was performed as the first stage. And, the pilot scale equipment used in the next stage of the project for demonstration purpose was designed. The results are briefly summarized as follows,
(1) Examination of the processing method
A semicontinuous equipment of 10 tons/day of scales was assumed as the first actual machine. As for the heating method,it was decided to adopt a steam injection, which was able to demonstrate an extremely superiority in flash heating characteristics as well as operability in comparison with an outside heating.
(2) Evaluation of resolution properties of the processing objects Sub-critical water processing was performed, and a methane fermentation examination was carried out on various organic wastes,such as, food wastes from various food manufacturing factories, pig feces, wastes from a scallop processing factory,sewage sludge, etc.
Depending on the object, the resolution properties by the sub-critical water processing were greatly different, particularly in the processing temperature dependency.
However, if the process is followed by methane fermentation, a processing condition with temperature lower than 150℃ and pressure less than 5 atmospheric pressure will be possible, which will bring a big effect for reduction of the equipment cost.
In the range of 150-200℃, gas abundance rises around 30% by sub-critical water processing in many cases.
Depending on the object, gas abundance may increase more than double. Regarding the processing days, there are the cases with an effect shortened 40%.
(3) The development of the business plan
On the basis of the needs investigation of the business target market, a business model plan was devised.
A pre-treatment equipment to raise the processing capacity of the conventional methane fermentation tank will be supplied to the 1,200m3 reaction tank in the recycling plant (Shinko Bio Arc Project) built at the northern part of Sendai-city.
