英文要約We developed a novel biodiesel process that esterifies free fatty acid to alkyl ester in the presence of hybrid catalyst under microwave irradiation. The process allows utilization of un-edible / low-cost feed stock such as waste oil derived from vegetable oil refining facility, rendered animal by-products and low-grade used cooking oil for biodiesel production.
The raw material (industrial waste oil derived from oleo-chemical facility and vegetable oil refining facility) and MeOH were converted to biodiesel fuel [BDF] (98 %) at 333-353 K for 10-30 min in the presence of our novel hybrid catalyst under microwave irradiation. On the contrary to the microwave reaction system, the conventional heating resulted in much longer time. The reaction significantly accelerated due to large dielectric loss of the hybrid catalysts resulting in the non-equilibrium local heating under microwave irradiation. The surface of the catalysts heated at much higher temperature than a bulk temperature under microwave irradiation.
We designed a novel reaction device suitable for a microwave reaction, and development of the process. We initially scaled up the microwave reactor for both flow and batch type from 100ml to 7.5L and 25L respectively. We developed microwave flow reactor with capacity to produce 1000L/day of biodiesel fuel.
In addition, we developed a cost model of total system based on three types of actual target feedstock, analyzing both fixed and variable cost from pretreatment, reaction to after-treatment. Finally, we reviewed our business plan focusing on procurement of competitive feedstock and sufficient on-site demand. Furthermore, we started our discussion with potential clients on test operation.
