一般的な色素増感太陽電池は多孔質チタニア電極上に増感色素が吸着され、対向電極との間にヨウ素電解液が満たされた構造をしている。このヨウ素電解液は優れた特性を示す一方、液体であるが故の欠点も多い。このヨウ素電解液を用いない完全固体型として、CuI、CuSCN、spiro型HTMなどが知られているが、ヨウ素電解液に比較して特性が低いのが現状である。
リコーは、材料開発から最終製品までを開発しているメーカーであり、過去、有機感光体や有機トランジスタ分野で培ってきたホール輸送材料技術がある。本課題では、ホール輸送材料に関する基礎的知見を基に、固体型色素増感太陽電池の開発を行っている。また、固体型色素増感太陽電池の高効率化のため、長波長領域まで光電変換する増感色素の開発も併せて行った。

It had concentrated on characteristic improvement of the solid-state dye sensitized solar cell in the last year. This year, two kinds sensitized dyes (the TCNQ derivatives and the metal free organic dyes) were investigated.
1) TCNQ derivatives
The examination example that uses the TCNQ derivatives as sensitized dyes in dye-sensitized solar cells is few, and the design policy to highly effective has not been established. Then, we synthesized two type TCNQ derivatives, Thiophene-TCNQ and ET-5 that has naphthalene unit, and evaluated cell performance.
 The λmax of UV-Vis absorption spectrum of Thiophene-TCNQ in acetnitrile compared with TCNQ has slightly red shift. However, UV-Vis absorption spectrum of Thiophene-TCNQ on TiO2 was the same to TCNQ. The cell performance of Thiophene-TCNQ was very low compared with TCNQ. The cell performance of Thiophene-TCNQ using with co-adsorbent was also very low. Comparing with TCNQ, waveform change of thiophene TCNQ in IPCE spectrum using with co-absorbent was similar behavior, but λmax was different( λmax of TCNQ : 560 nm, λmax of Thiophene-TCNQ : 450 nm). The absorption edge of ET-5 was short wavelength compared with TCNQ. The waveform in IPCE of ET-5 using with co-adsorbent has not changed. This is difference behavior with TCNQ.
2) Metal free organic dyes
Recent year, in the design policy of the metal free organic dyes, the D-π-A type is a main current. We introduced "X" into the unit of π. Although, the end of IPCE of the dye included "X" unit was short wavelength compared with thiophene unit, the value of IPCE was increased. This "X" unit showed the same behavior A-unit using cyanoacetic acid and double Rhodanine ring. It was not suitable for design policy for long wavelength. However, it was suitable for design policy for increase of IPCE value.
