Research and development has been executed to verify the hypothesis that degummed CPO (Crude Palm Oil) would be effective as bio fuel, and that emulsified degummed CPO would have no impact for internal combustion of engines. In order to develop the simple yet efficient degumming system for crude palm oil, degumming process test using Nanomizer was done and we reviewed the condition regarding adding water as well as the condition for centrifugation. As a result, we were able to achieve our target phosphorus remaining less than 3 ppm after 6minutes of centrifugation with the condition for the 1000G centrifugal acceleration with water ratio at 8% at 60degrees. Based on this result, we upgrade the degumming procedure to the mini-plant scale. We also are now collecting the assessment data for the numbers and the diameters on the nozzles which is used inside the generator and the mixing used for current water system. According to this result, we plan to make a sample nozzle which makes the appropriate water dispersion state. It will be completed by mid of May. To build up the mini plant we currently selecting the centrifugal system in order to upgrade the centrifugal part in the degumming process. After fixing the configuration of the mini plant, we will evaluate the quality after building the degumming system using the sample nozzle as well as the centrifugal system selected. This will be done during mid May to early July timeframe. Targeting to develop an evaluation system for combustion test using the small-size power generator, we have completed developing the evaluation system which is able to measure the temperature control, the flow meters and the emission meters. We are going to undertake these experiments during April to June timeframe. On top of our research and development at our site, we could have a chance to undertake preliminary test using the mid-size power generator (2600kW) outside our office, in order to do the early stage assessment for applicability of degummed palm oil using the actual unit (degumming system, centrifugal system, emulsion system) . The purpose of this preliminary test was to verify the combustibility on actual mid-size power generator with applying the emulsion fuel made out of the A-heavy oil blended with degummed palm oil. We have brought the degummed palm oil to the test site, then blend the A heavy oil and the degummed palm oil at the percentage of 75 to 25 (volume) at the test site. We used batch-type centrifugal system, and 300L/h NMES to add water for degumming system. No damages on engines with degummed palm blended oil or any effects caused by the carbon attachment for short period of time (5hours) were found. From the results, we have confirmed that the direction of the research and development is right on the truck, and are aiming to develop the appropriate test plans for 100% palm oil using small power generator.
