With a dramatic increase in the number of cars, gasoline consumption in China has been increasing remarkably. On the other hand, the Chinese government does not allow building new ethanol production plants which produce ethanol from foods such as corn, in order to avoid the soar of food prices.
This project aims to solve these issues by introducing the technology of bioethanol production from residues of potato-starch to Keshan potato-starch factory of Heilongjiang Bei Da Huang Potato Group, and to spread the technology. In FY2012, (1) Field surveys and the work related to the agreement, and (2)Work for plant design and project supervision and management were carried out. Regarding (1) Field surveys and the work related to the agreement, we, Sojitz Corporation and Hitachi Zosen Corporation, visited Harbin and Keshan and held project liaison conference there with Heilongjiang Bei Da Huang Potato Group and discussed/researched/checked about (a) Implementation Document, (b) Project schedule, (c)Project site, (d)Supply method of raw material(potato starch residue), (e)utility , etc. And then, we supported for the work related to the MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) between NEDO and National Energy Administration (China). On the other hand, the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) and we reached an agreement of providing the sample, filamentous fungi Acremonium (strain TN), for the project. Regarding (2) Work for plant design and project supervision and management, preparation for procuring equipment and machinery for the demonstration facility to produce bioethanol from potato starch residue, and the work for basic plan for construction in the plant site, basic design, detailed design, and project supervision and management were carried out. Details are as follows; (Basic planning): Technical survey of raw materials dehydration and cultivation facility, sample test of raw material for study of specifications for receiving and pretreatment facility, etc. (Basic design): Preparation of basic design documents and establishment of efficient process scheme and equipment arrangement, and conclusion of the outsourcing contract for design and implementation of design study meeting with AIST. (Detailed design): Preparation of mechanical data sheet for tanks, vessels and equipment to be procured in China and Japan, and preparation of electrical and instrumentation specification, etc., and (project overall supervision and management).
