1. Subjects for joint research and results
(1) Control by tuning theory
* For rather small wave conditions, Hs < 2m, where the existing control cannot capture power efficiently, high power absorption was achieved by developing new control method based on tuning theory.
* Control method by tuning can apply not only for near around the frequency of float, but also for wide range of wave frequency.

(2) High power absorption efficiency and high capacity factor
* Scale model test (model scale 1/16) in test basin, mechanical conversion factor (power absorption efficiency) is 60 to 80% for regular waves, and around 50% for irregular waves.
* Considering electrical efficiency of 80%, total conversion factor is to be 35 to 40%.
* These test results suggest that the capacity factor of more than 35% can be achieved at the candidate site off Kozu-shima.
* Further study may allow the capacity factor of 40%.

(3) Safety design consideration for use in the actual severe sea environment
* For stormy weather, i.e. abnormal wave height for 50 years, water is poured into an air chamber of the spar for ensuring buoyancy, to reduce mooring force.
* Height of the underwater section is to be 43m, to ensure stability even in stormy conditions.

(4) Preparation of actual sea experiment
Consensus building effort with local municipality was done continuously.
In order to enable objective judgment, the followings were done.
* Research on ocean environment including marine organism
* Research on social and economical influence
* Hosting of open forum on the details of the project

(5) Power generation cost not exceeding Yen40/kWh
* MES investigated and confirmed power generation cost not exceeding Yen40/kWh, by fitting Power Buoy design into Japanese sea environment.
