(1) Background, purpose and targets
1) Background and purpose
In recent years, sightseeing patterns of both Japanese and foreign tourists are drastically
changing, and people want their itinerary tailored for themselves, with more hands-on
experience. This trend increases the tourists’ needs not only for simple sightseeing and traffic
information but also for comprehensive service provision necessary for safe driving, such as
information of accident prone areas combined with weather information.
In terms of communities with sightseeing sites, although they have some systems to offer
information through cell phone networks, they are far from serving as a platform that allows
direct connection to tourists who desire to have their sightseeing experience tailored for
themselves.
This project focuses on further activation of communities with sightseeing sites, elimination of
duplicated information control and convenience of tourists, and constructs a tourist
information platform, in order to reduce control costs and provide tourists with safe and
secured sightseeing experience.

2) Target
1.Construct a Hokkaido tourist information platform, and identify functional requirements to
allow tourists to travel comfortably, safely and securely. In addition, analyze tourists’
sightseeing behavior to promote ‘One More Visit’ and build a business model. Verify safe
driving assistance of rent-a-car users, collect onboard camera videos and find out the
possibility of gathering road traffic information around sightseeing sites, such as congestion.
2.Clarify an effective information delivery method achieved by connecting to other relating
systems such as the Hokkaido Tourist Information Platform.
3.Evaluate the service model developed in this project in terms of convenience, attractiveness,
profitability, operation and maintenance. In addition, verify the feasibility of the business
profitability model to deploy the business in the phase II.
 * ‘One More Visit” provides sightseeing information not included in the original itinerary
when the time allows, and induce them to visit one more spot. It incorporates the analysis
result of a tourist behavior model, traffic condition and flight information.

(2) Implementation item in 2012
1) Tourist information platform research and development
1. Hokkaido tourist information platform construction and system development

The entire system of the Hokkaido Tourist Information Platform was successfully
designed. Based on the examined requirements for each function, ‘Viajar Sightseeing
Platform ASP’, for which DENSO Communications were providing services, was
determined to be applied for this project. To meet the requirements for each function,
server software was created to develop additional functions. In addition, requirements for
each server were examined and purchased, and setup was implemented.
