Material of substitute used to PEFC (Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell) separator is carbon now.In 2015, mission is that recent cost will be one third (150 yen per sheet) in nearly future.SUS316L with the superior corrosion resistance is expected to next generation separator.But, deterioration of the contact resistance with the oxidation protective film and the electrolyte membrane by the metal elution become the big problem.The DLC which we developed is very low contact resistance, and , Anti-corrosion is good performance because it is porous free.Characteristic improvement and large reduction in cost are possible by high speed coating conductive DLC on metal.The coating speed 20μm/hr is necessary to do below coating cost 30 yen/piece in 800,000 pieces/month of the separator of the 10cm square.Therefore we developed a bench model equipment and found possibility of the achievement of the aim.A electric resitivity is less than 5mohm・cm, and contact resistance is less than 5mohm・cm2. We achieve satisfies a resistance level as the separator with our conductive DLC.When SUS316L which I coated conductive DLC immerses in electrolyte of the sulfuric acid (pH2) of temperature 80 degrees Celsius and the voltage 1.0V, it is not eroded DLC.About the metal elution, ratio 0.01ppm or less of the nickel ion are found. Metal does not leach from the SUS316L.In the automotive fuel battery, when overvoltage (OCV) at the time of the start is applied to a metal separator, metal corrosion is concerned about deterioration.We performed an examination whether or not the separator with deteriorated in OCV examination (Open-circuit voltage) for 100 hours.The deterioration was not seen in IV characteristic in before and after examination. And we obtained a carbon good result at the same level as a separator.In stead of long-term 5,000 hours driving examination, we performed the 1,000 hours driving examination after OCV examination as severe testing.We compared it with the carbon separator 500 hours later. We got good characteristic of separator with our conductive DLC.
