The purpose of this study is to establish a new measurement method with low cost and high precision to contribute to promoting popularization of solar water heating systems for individual homes so that utilization of renewable energy can be further expanded.
The measurement techniques verified in this demonstration project shall be simple measurement and deeming measurement techniques. Furthermore, specified measuring instruments shall be used for reference. For simple measurement, calorimeters that indicate the values on remote controls and externally attached inexpensive calorimeters are compared with reference as simple external calorimeters, both with target error of ±10% or smaller. For deeming measurement, simulation methods that satisfy error from reference smaller than ±20% shall be established through system specifications and simulations based on local characteristics.
In Fiscal 2012 study, demonstration data were collected successively from the field where calorimeters are installed and are being compiled and analyzed. The number of installation fields is total 101 fields.
In comparison of integrated value of seasonal heat quantity obtained by simple measurement techniques, it was confirmed that the relative error was within ±10% in many of the fields. However, since hot water supply load fluctuates dramatically by season in general, and thus evaluation of annual data is necessary.
Regarding deeming measurement, comparison to calorimeter integrated value as well as verification were conducted by simulating for the measurement period in detached house fields with actual loads so that the measurement technique could be verified since the calorimeter data for 1 year had not been accumulated.
In measurement of errors in specified measuring instruments, Japan Gas Appliances Inspection Association (JIA), which is a public testing organization, verified the measurement errors for specified measuring instruments A and B, and simple external calorimeter by comparison with a JIA standard testing device. As a result, specific measuring instrument A which was a reference showed about -7% relative error in temperature difference and specific measuring instrument B about -1%. It was found that the major cause of large relative error in specific measuring instrument A lay in failure to capture the heat quantity especially when hot water use is started intermittently as its temperature response rate was low due to the large heat capacities for the calorimeter main unit and PT temperature sensing element.
