1.Investigation of color rendering properties of white LED lighting
 To develop the new evaluation methods of color rendering properties of LED lighting,we carried out the subjective experiments for color reproduction based on (1) colorimetric fidelity and (2) color preference or impression of lighting environment.
(1)Colorimetric fidelity study
The haploscopic viewing experiment was employed to evaluate the difference of color attribute between the left and the right lighting booth. The same test color sample as the left reference booth illuminated by the test light source was viewed by the right eye. The observer directly evaluated the color difference between the two color samples using the color difference scales in the reference viewing booth.
 The result showed that the correlation coefficient between the perceived CRI and the caluculated CRI was 0.83. The relationships of the other light sources were obtained approximately the same results. Our experimental results support that the color rendition of white LED light sources can be evaluated by color fidelity concept,.
(2)Color preference study
The purpose of the 2012 research project was to clarify the influence in preference evaluation of the color rendering by the correlated color temperature of LED lighting. In order to get the flexibility of the spectral power distributions, we added the 2-color LEDs to the lighting evaluation equipment already set up the previous research years. At the result we got the ten channels composed of different color LEDs.
 The results showed that the subjective evaluation on preference was higher under the low correlated color temperature(CCT) of LED lighting than under the high CCT lighting. From the results, in order to get the more accurate color-rendering evaluation method, it was shown that it should be needed to include the CCT factor into the calculation procedure of the new color rendering properties on color preference.
    
2.Study of discomfort glare of LED lighting
 To develop the method of evaluating discomfort glare of the LED lighting, the next stage experiment following the 2013 study was carried out in 2014 research project focused on the inference of the observer’s age. In the experiment, the subject was asked to evaluate the degree of discomfort glare under the various LED luminaires using a scale with seeing fixation point in the center of the front of wall.
 The results confirmed that (a) the effects of the observer’s age did not make inference on the subjective evaluation of discomfort glare and (b) the difference of the spectral power distribution of LED lighting also make no inference on the subjective discomfort glare.
