Continuous monitoring of solute concentration in spent dialysate is required to develop an automated navigation dialysis system. Therefore, preliminary examination was performed for development of the continuous monitoring technique this year. Spent dialysate was extracted during clinical treatments and change of absorbance was measured in various UV wavelengths. As a result, an exponential decrease of absorbance was clearly obtained during an in vitro study. The optimal detection wavelength range for the monitoring was determined as 280 - 300 nm.
We are going to develop basic technologies of the monitoring applicable for clinical treatments, and a navigation function of the dialysis equipment based on the feedback control to establish an adequate dialysis treatment for each patient in the near future.
