In the 3rd year of this NEDO project of "Standardization of OLED lighting (2010FY-2013FY)", the international standardization activity has been accelerated dramatically in International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and many other communities.
Our tasks in the project are (i) extracting issues for standardization of Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) panels for lighting, (ii) conducting research & develop measurements and evaluation methods of the panels, (iii) supply data and experiences for the communities involved international standardization of OLED lighting to assist a smooth starting of the international standardization discussion.
Our works have performed under the supervisor of ‘’the OLED lighting Advisory Committees’’ (eight meetings were held in 2012FY). This committee has organized under the support of the NEDO project, whose members were collected among experts of Photometry and Radiometry of the lighting from the academics, national research institutes, and industry groups.
We have also prepared a public institution named “OPEN Labo.”, where the equipments and facilities for photometry and radiometry are available freely both for the academic and the industrial researchers to contribute to industrial developments of OLED lighting.
This year, we concentrated on basic issues to measure an OLED panel, for example, influences of environment of the panel setup. And we also concentrated on the panel duration (or lifetime) as specific issues for the OLED lighting. In addition, we performed a series of psychophysical experiments to study the perceptual aspects on the uniformity of the panels and the angular -dependent chromatic shifts.

The report includes the following contents:

1.1 Basic topics of optical measurements
(1) Integrating Sphere (4pi-geometry)
・ Measurements for Large size panels
・ Influence of large self-absorption correlation coefficient
・ Influences of environment (operation orientation, ambient temperature, natural convection, air flow, input power dependence, etc.)
(2) Integrating Sphere (2pi-geometry)
(3) Goniometry
・ Absolute luminous flux measurement in Goniometry.
・ Color difference between Goniometry and Integrating Sphere measurements.
・ Evaluation indices in angular color difference.
