Nisshinbo Holdings and our company are jointly developing the next-generation long-life PV module without PID (Potential Induced Degradation) phenomenon and salt damage which is composed of olefinic rubber sealant and cycloolefin-coplolymer (COC) sheet. Our company is responsible for the developments of COC material, COC sheet molding technology and junction box unit in the long-life PV module development.
1. Development of COC material
COC material is a transparent resin with good moisture barrier property. However, it was necessary to improve the heat and humidity resistance and the light resistance of COC material for the application of PV module. The improved formulations of both resistances were established by the investigation of the many kinds of stabilizers and additives. The master batch (MB) including both formulations is required in order to reduce the production cost of COC sheet. The MB is currently under development.
2. Development of COC sheet molding technology
The device factors for COC sheet extrusion molding have been investigated for the preparation of COC sheet with good surface appearance and low warp. Three rolls of horizontal sequence, capability of roll temperature control and nitrogen purge were found to be important factors. The COC sheet of which size was 700X1330X1mm was prepared by the sheet extrusion molding line with the important factors. The qualities of COC sheet approximately achieved the target. Our final size of COC sheet is 1000X1650mm. We are planning to develop the COC sheet.
3. Development of junction box (JB) unit
The next-generation long-life PV module which is currently under development is a module of both sides glass type. The conventional JB which is fixed on back sheet of PV module is not able to be applied to the long-life PV module. Therefore, we have following concepts for the design of new JB. A) To apply to the new long-life PV module. B) System voltage is 1000V. C) Cover of water. D) Simultaneous assemble in crosslink press process of PV production. Glass-fiber reinforced PBT is selected as a JB material and the new JB was designed to achieve the above concepts.
