This project is performing demonstration of technologies, such as a hydrogen supply infrastructure utilizing the regional specific hydrogen supply technology of Fukuoka and Saga Prefecture. The final purpose is to contribute to formulating and advancing the “Initiative to Promote a Diffusion of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles in Northern Kyushu”.
Report of FY 2012 is as follows.
(1)Driving demonstrations of FCVs in a wide area by cooperating hydrogen stations
In October 2012, we conducted a demonstration event of five FCVs which ran from cities of Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, and Saga to Kumamoto. A questionnaire survey on hydrogen station usage and location was carried out to hydrogen station operators and drivers.
(2)Examination of rationalization of regulation for driver self-refueling operation (Kitakyushu station, Kyushu University station, Tosu station)
In order to contribute to the commercialization of driver self-refueling hydrogen station, which can operate highly efficient, we made self-refueling demonstration test operation in two stations.
1st trial was made on July 19, 2012 in Kyushu University station, a woman fresh operator who has not any chance to make hydrogen refueling to FCV was applied as monitor driver. 2nd trial was made on January 25, 2013 in Kitakyushu station, three types guidance of refueling procedure were prepared for three monitor persons to choose best guidance to understanding.
These demonstrations were carried out co-operate with “the investigative commission for self-refueling & refueling on public road of hydrogen”, based on NEDO demonstration project of ”Technical study for hydrogen manufacturing, transportation and storage system etc.”
(3)Demonstration of by-product hydrogen supply, and cooperation with the Kitakyushu Smart Community Creation Project (Kitakyushu Station)
Was examined how to take advantage of the hydrogen station to supply hydrogen directly by-product from ironworks.
The supply via a pipeline of by-product hydrogen has not caused the trouble in quality and the facility management, and has been operated stably.
From July 2012, a test project implemented “dynamic pricing” where prices change by power demand estimate. We checked a dynamic pricing monitor and charged hydrogen accumulator during the hours of lowest demand, confirmed effectiveness of power demand equalization by hydrogen carrier.
(4)Demonstration of hydrogen supply in utilizing renewable energy (Tosu Station)
We established a remote monitoring system of a transportable hydrogen station.
This remote monitoring system allows access from anywhere through the internet, while securing access only to limited members. With this system, we expect to be able to make prompt actions and reduce labor cost.
(5)Demonstration of hydrogen supply by utilizing renewable energy (Kyushu University Station)
The objective of this research project is to simulate the operation of hydrogen refueling station in Kyushu University by making use of renewable energies such as wind and solar power. The station is equipped with two electrolyzers of 5Nm3/hr each. The simulation will be based on actual measured date of wind turbine and solar panel that are installed in the university campus. In FY2012, we continue to measure the data of energy efficiency of two electrolyzers with some modifications of operating modes depending on the result obtained in FY2011.
