In the FY2010-FY2012 NEDO research (Technology Development of Hydrogen Production, Transport, Storage / Research and Development of Component Technology for Hydrogen Station / Evaluation and Development of Aluminum Materials for Hydrogen), we have developed an φ33mm extrusion round bar of 6000 series aluminum alloys. It has good workability, stress corrosion crack resistance, and hydrogen embrittlement resistance, and the 0.2% proof stress has achieved 15% higher than 6061 aluminum alloy.
Since the valve housing has a complicated shape, it could be machined from large-sized extrusion material, or forged with extrusion material in order to acquire a near shape. In this case, further development is required to meet the target specifications.
In this project we will manufacture several kinds of 6000 series extrusion aluminum alloy samples which are based on the result of the FY2010-FY2012 NEDO research, and carry out the investigation of samples’ structure, tensile property, machinability, grain boundary corrosion-resistance property, and stress corrosion crack resistance property. The investigation of samples’ hydrogen embrittlement resistance property and long-term load crack resistance property will be carried out by Ibaraki University.
Furthermore, we will carry out basic examination about the work method of forging extrusion material to acquire a near shape.
Then, we will narrow down the optimal composition and manufacturing conditions, carry out trial production and property investigation of valve housing.
In FY 2013, we have finished the casting of 7 aluminum alloys which have different compositions, and finished the manufacture of No.1-No.5 aluminum alloy large-sized extrusion samples.
