(1) Improvement of Collecting and Breaking Unused Wood Residues: We collected wood residues in the field by using small radio-controlled truck loader with monitoring cameras, and tried to find the problems to solve. 3D cameras and 3D monitors are installed in order to improve the control feeling of the machine. We also measured the time to complete collecting definite quantity of wood residues. As a result, it took 4 times longer compared with using the former machine. In addition to this, we measured the drying process of logs and brunches under the various conditions. In summer, they had been dried to 40% moisture content (dry basis) in 1~2 months regardless of the conditions. On the other hand, in winter the drying speed was slow and the moisture content was varied from 50% to 70%. (2) Drying Wood Chips: We had finished building the chip-drying machine and started the drying tests. We assumed that it had capacity to down the moisture content of wood chips from 90% to under 10% in 15 minutes. The efficiency of drying chips was 30~40% in case of drying wet (90% moisture content) chips, but it was 10~25% in case of drying air-dried (33% moisture content) chips. We estimated the cost to make 18% moisture content chips. In case of drying wet chips, the estimated cost was 8,490yen/t. In case of drying air-dried chips, it was 2,434yen/t. (3) Multiform Biomass Gasification Power Generation: (3-a) Gas Purification: The BF pre-coating device was tested manually upon its introduction in FY2012. Based on the results of said tests, software was developed in FY2013 in order to automate the pre-coating process. (3-b) Automatic Control of the Bridge Breaker (3-c) Gasification Properties: In addition to the improvements conducted in FY2012, in FY2013 we tested the equipment for 16 consecutive hours at designated parameters using only shredded wood chips. Tests were successful and gasification was stabilized. (3-d) Durability Tests: By February 2014, durability tests were conducted for 530hrs, with no particular problems in the equipment, including the feed stock tank and feed stock conveyor. The equipment will continue to be observed periodically to ascertain optimal maintenance intervals.
