Abstract

The binary power generation system which adapts to the hot spring heat source is noted for use of renewable energy and we are developing a compact, high efficient and low cost system. This binary power generation system utilizes “Oilfree Rankine-Cycle” technology and is equipped with oilfree scroll expander, oilfree pump and small heat exchanger. We will target to achieve 7% thermal efficiency using this system.

Design

Market research and design concept of binary power generation system.
In this project, we studied the requirements from the market and made design concept for the development of our compact binary power generation system.
In low temperature hot spring, the eruptive volume per hot spring head is not hot enough for existing systems. Therefore, the system has to be small for marketability to the end users.
Also, both the expander and the heat exchanger have to be improved because the system has to be small and highly efficient

Unit testing on scroll expander.
The unit testing was conducted for developing small and high efficiency expander.

Development of tribological system on scroll expander.
The tip seal material of scroll expander needs stable lubricant performance in the low-boiling liquid. We have conducted a screening of materials and made the attrition machine.
