Contents and Results
1.Planning of resource measurement
The plan for resource measurement around Kuchinoshima island in Kagoshima prefecture and off the coast of cape Shionomisaki in Wakayama prefecture.
(1)Around Kuchinoshima island in Kagoshima prefecture
a. Measurement of ocean current velocity distribution
Measurement of velocity distribution will be carried out to determine the place where the buoy system for the long term measurement of ocean current velocity will be installed.
The measurement will be carried out by Kagoshima-maru of Kagoshima university using ADCP(Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler) installed at ship bottom.
To determine the root for current velocity measurement, survey of published paper and some data was carried out.
As a result of data survey, root in the sea around Kuchinoshima island and off shore root between Kuchinoshima island and Yakushima island were selected.
The measurement in these root will be carried out in April,2014.
b. long term measurement at fixed point
The buoy system for long term current velocity measurement will be installed at the position which will be determined from the result of velocity measurement and the pre-existing data.
The buoy system consists of the sinker, velocimeter around bottom region, float, buoy and ADCP installed in the buoy.
The data acquired will be stored in the memory and will be obtained after recovery of buoy system.
The buoy system will be recovered after the sinker will be released by activation of release device.
(2)Measurement of ocean current velocity off the coast of cape Shionomisaki
To plan the measurement of ocean current velocity distribution off the coast of cape Shionomisaki, survey of pre-existing data was carried out.
As a result of data survey, the measurement will be carried out in latitudinal direction around the peak of Kuroshio current velocity.
2.Basic plan of towing generation test
(1)Objective
To demonstrate the stable performance of generation in sea water under floating condition
To acquire the data for COE estimation
To acquire the data for the improvement of the design for ocean current generator
(2)Test items
Test for nominal operation
Test to obtain power curve of ocean current generator
Test to obtain the characteristics of star up sequence
Test to obtain the characteristics of shut down sequence
Test to simulate the abnormal scenario
(3)Outline of test equipment
The floating type ocean current generator is moored from sea bed. To simulate the mooring, some bodies will be towed by the ship and the test equipment will be moored from this towing body.
The simulation of behavior of this system was carried out by Orca Flex which is the simulation software for mooring system and the feasibility was confirmed.
The basic plan of test equipment was established based on the objective and test items.
The arrangement of components in the nacelle was studied and the size of nacelle was decided.
The size of nacelle will be optimized in the detail design phase of test equipment.
