Innovative and feasible CHP (combined heat and power) system with use of gasification technology, which utilized super high temperature normal pressure stem, has been developing through this project. The main themes in 2011 for this project were, 1)Verification of energy conversion rate by experiments with trial manufacture of CHP system, 2)Experimental study for verification of feasibility of the CHP system.
1) Verification of energy conversion rate by experiments with trial manufacture of CHP systemAs the high temperature steam generator (called SI) was already existed as our facility, we have manufactured and assembled other facilities which are consisted of CHP system.
The trial manufacture have been done gasification furnace, pre-treatment system for feedstock, conveying system for feedstock, cleaning system for synthetic gases (syngas), and syngas utilizing facility. The cut off tree branches were used as a representative of biomass feedstock. We have found suitable way for smooth treatment and convey through various try & error.
On the other hand, the char gasification rate under the high temperature steam conditions was clarified by fundamental study in Nagoya University. Based on the result, we have designed char re-cycling system which is attached on gasification furnace in order to increase residence time of char particles in gasification furnace. We have found the appropriate configuration for chain conveyer through gasification tests by using manufactured char re-cycling system.
As a syngas utilizing facility, a power generation system with diesel engine was prepared by cooperation of portable power generator maker. The modification of the gas injection system for applying the syngas was necessary, and then finally we found the suitable configuration of the gas mixer through several experiments. We have accomplished 50kW power generation by using syngas with assistance 30% of light oil.
2) Experimental study for verification of feasibility of the CHP system
Investigation for feedstock accumulation cost has been done in order to verification of feasibility for the CHP system. As a result, “K-System” which was proposed by a NPO K-BETS, can be achieved lowest cost than other existing accumulating methods. The production cost for both lumber and feedstock was roughly 4000J-Yen/m3 compared to other ordinary methods which are more than 6000J-Yen/m3. If the cost would be realized, the accumulation cost will be absorbed into the ordinary expenses of lumber mill factory.
In addition, the cost for making chips with some chipper was estimated through an experiment with small chipper machine. The result was 2000-2500 J-Yen/m3. The most of the cost is labor cost so that more systematic chipping way has to be considered for reducing the cost.
Through the studies in this year, it was clarified that the efficiency of gasification and power generation assumed in the feasibility study, which have been done in previous year, can be possible to realize. However, the expenses for operation, especially chipping cost, have to be done further study for making a practical business plan.
