The objective of this R&D project was to develop an energy conserving high-impact pulverizing mill which replaces the ball medium with a cog-ring medium called "tandem-ring". It is used for effective pretreatment of lignocellulosic biomass to produce the bio-ethanol. The horizontal, unidirectional shaker was developed and confirmed to reduce the required driving power. And it could be reduced below 0.01% by the shape of the ring without a circumferential projection in element examination previous year.
The following item was examined this year.
1. The examination about the moisture content of raw materials to supply in a tandem ring mil
A fine grinder and dryer, the KDS Micronex, is an innovative system for grinding and drying (dehydrating) materials was used in this experiment. When the KDS was used, wood chips of the 50% water were able to decrease in 19% and the energy consumed at that time was 2.24MJ/kg.
2. Examination about the saccharification fermentation energy reduction
When the enzyme of Cellic CTec2 was used in saccharification, it is clarified that the quantity of the addition was able to be reduced to 0.5% lower than.
In addition, by the simultaneous saccharification fermentation examination in powdery density 10wt/vol %, approximately 3.3% ethanol concentration by volume was arrived at by a combination of CellicCTec and NS22119 in 72 hours.
3. Remodeling of continuous demonstration trail tandem-ring mill
Using small tandem ring mil TR1500, the crush pot structure corresponding to the change of the bulk density with the crush was decided.
By this result, decrease of powdery volume can be performed in short time by the lengthening the stay time of raw materials.
Furthermore, the behavior analysis of the ring in the crushing was carried out by using the 3m rush pot.
In a business plan, it was investigated about the stable supply of the biomass in detail as well as the market of the energy conserving high-impact pulverizing mill. In addition, a scenario for business was drawn on the pulverized wood about not only raw materials for bio-ethanol but also the direct marketing.
