One of our purposes is to develop new dyes employed for a bottom electrode of tandem cells. The target was development of dyes realizing photoconversion in the area up to 1100 nm. The results were already reported previously. This time, we report fabrication of tandem cell having simple structures. We fabricated tandem cells consisting of back contact bottom electrodes. The bottom electrode is composed of a porous titania layer stained by dyes supported by a metal mesh in the back side (Back contacted titania-dye electrode). The Voc of the cell was the sum of those of the front and back electrode, strongly demonstrated that the cell worked as tandem cells. The remaining issue is development of IR dyes used for the back contact bottom electrodes. The next item we have targeted was development of near IR dyes for cocktail dye-sensitized solar cells. We focused on phthalocyanine derivatives which are expected to have high durability. Several dyes covering areas from visible to near IR regions (900nm) were synthesized and the items affecting IPCE values were discussed. The IPCE value was affected by dye aggregation and the relationship between excitation life time and IPCE value was observed. It was found that the IPCE increased up to 70% when the aggregation was retarded.
